Exhibits and Play

As the former Director of a children’s museum, I know how important play is for attracting audiences and sharing content with young audiences and their caregivers. But creating exhibits that genuinely teach ideas and content through play is challenging!

A few years ago I worked with fellow consultants Sarah Jencks and Kristin Scarola to unpack the relationship between play, learning, and exhibitions. We developed a guide and tools to support museums in developing play-based, meaningful learning experiences.

This free downloadable resource includes two tools: A checklist to help you assess whether your gallery interactives will effectively engage people in learning through play, and a worksheet that takes you through the process of thinking about the ideas shared in this resource.
